In the early hours of this morning, I landed back at LAX having spent eleven days traveling to, around and from Antarctica.

While I will save the details of my trip for a future book/article, I want to briefly talk about part of my motivation for going.

Since traveling to every country in the world is one of my core achievements, the fact tends to rear its head in conversation from time to time.

What sometimes follows is a conversation along the following lines:

Them: “You’ve been to every country in the world?”
Me: “Yes. Every one.”
Them: “Really? You’ve been to North Korea?”
Me: “Yes.”
Them: “What about Aghanistan?”
Me: “Yes.”
Them: “Iraq?”
Me: “Yes, I’ve been to every country.”

[Pause]

Them: “What about Antarctica?”

[Pause] Me: “Antarctica’s not a country.”
Them (disappointed): “Oh.”

So, that’s that taken care of.
